Gilbert Arenas recently made a bet with his teammate, DeShawn Stevenson, in practice one day that he could make more one handed three point shots from the college line than Stevenson could with both hands from the NBA line. This was also no small initiation bet, but a 20,000 dollar bet. Although that doesn't effect them nearly as much as it would a typical person, but that's still a lot of money.
Here's the video and a great recap of the events.
Gilbert ended up winning the competition and the 20,000 dollars, although he had to use every distracting tactic he could possibly think of.
My favorite thought about this comes courtesy of The Fanhouse where they poing out that due to the difference in salarys, Stevenson losing 20,000 dollars is the equivalent of Arenas losing 237,397 dollars. This is insanity at its best form and that is why I love Gilbert Arenas.

Dick Vitale Has Trouble Staying On Topic...
If anyone is merely a casual fan of college basketball or watches ESPN during the winter months, they are bound to see Dick Vitale in all his yelping, hyperactive, Duke loving glory. And if you are familar with him there are probably a few things you associate him with: His sayings of "yeah baby!" and calling people "diaper dandies", his love for Duke, and his tendency to drift away from the topic at hand.
Courtesy of Deadspin, I came across this site that kept track of all the things that Dickie V. talked about during the Louisville/Connecticut game that had absolutely nothing to do with the game he was broadcasting at the time. They came up with 156 items. Let's say it was an average 2 hour game, that means he is going off topic more than once a minute! Here are some things he talked about...
1. Duke
2. Mike Krzykewski
3. Duke's 1986 Team
22. N.C. State women's team
45. Frank Sinatra
47. Lou Carnesecca
69. Tom Brady
74. Mario Boggan
142. Fran Franschilla
How on earth did these things get brought up? There is absolutely no way Frank Sinatra or Fran Franschilla were in any way relevant to the game at hand is there? Were they playing word association on the air or what? Wow, he's entering Tim Jamison territory.

Optimism in Denver

For one night at least, the Carmelo Anthony/Allen Iverson dynamic worked well in Denver. They won their first game playing together and even though they only beat the Grizzlies, there's still a lot of optimism in Denver and for good reason. With a core lineup of Carmelo, Iverson, J.R. Smith, Camby, and Steve Blake, this is one scary team. The problem though is that they're in the west and they have a lot of ground to make up. They would currently be the 7th seed if the playoffs were to start today, 11 games behind the Mavericks and it certainly doesn't help that the western conference is just freaking insane this year. The Mavs and Suns are absolutely phenomenal, in fact, I don't think I'd have a complaint if the NBA cancelled the 2nd half of the season and had a best of 41 series between the Suns and Mavs. And even beyond that you have a Jazz team that is playing phenomenally, the Duncan led Spurs that somehow are always in it, a Houston team that should become very good again once Yao returns (and especially if Tracy can stay healthy), and the way Kobe has gotten the rest of the Lakers playing makes them a scary team too. All in all, if they develop a chemistry together and work everything out, this could become the third or fourth best team in the west and get deep in the playoffs or maybe in the finals if things work out well enough. They have a reaon for this optimism in Denver and whether it will pay off, we'll just have to wait and see...

I Am Excited...

Tonight is a good night of TV
This is Carmelo's first game to play with Allen Iverson as a teammate.
Tonight is the fifth hour of this season of 24
Heroes returns
Right now, the Denver Nuggets are in 7th place in the west and it they have been 7-8 during Anthony's 15 game suspension so Iverson hasn't been a huge help to them thus far, but now we get to see Iverson and Anthony together, but the big question is whether or not two 30 point per game guys can co-exist together. What makes it even better is that there is a free preview of NBA League Pass this week so I can watch it tonight.
Last week on 24, there was an atomic bomb that went off in Los Angeles. It was one of the most shocking moments that I've ever experienced while watching television. Now my question is where do they go from there? Surely they can't top that or can they? Unless Jack Bauer is killed off by the end of the night, I don't see that getting topped. And even if they're not trying to top it, how do you continue that plot line? I'll just have to wait and see I guess...

Gilbert Arenas is a Psychic
I posted on Tuesday about how Gilbert Arenas has been playing like a monster lately. So anyways, I was just reading his blog on NBA.com and his newest prediction is that February 11th against the Trail Blazers will be the next game in which he scores 50 points. He also points out that TNT or ESPN should pick up the game. This is simply amazing. I don't know if he's legitimitely insane or not, but either way this is thoroughly entertaining to me. And this isn't a one time thing, he's done this before. Before the game against the Jazz last week he told his teammate that he would score 37 points and hit the game winner. Well, he scored 51 so he was a bit off on the points, but he did hit the game winner. He's just insane, but I do know this. If ESPN or TNT does pick up the Wizards/Trail Blazers game on Feb. 11th, I will be watching.

Gilbert Arenas Is A Monster
I know i'm not the first person to say this, but put me on the bandwagon now. Is there a more dominant player in the NBA right now? I don't think so. Last night he hit another game winning three pointer as time expired and this is simply becoming commonplace for him. (My favorite part of that shot was that he raised his arms in celebration before the ball even went in)
Although he isn't the face of the NBA or most popular player he's on his way. What was the last amazing thing that Wade, LeBron, or Kobe did? Agent Zero's scored over 50 points three times already this year and of course his 60 point game against the Lakers earlier in the year. There is no one I would rather have on my team right now than Gilbert Arenas.
