Reflections of Saint Patrick's Day

Hello Everybody,
Saturday I celebrated Saint Patrick's Day with my fiancee up in Cleveland. At 7:30 in the morning we went to Saint Patrick's Parish in Cleveland. It's a Catholic church and monastery that was erected in the mid-to late 1800s. The architecture in there was magnificent. After the long mass, the church had a free breakfast with eggs, bacon, biscuits and juice. After that we went to the Renaissance hotel by tower city so we would have some place warm to go to after the parade and also so her grandparents could see the parade while indoors. Overall the day was fun. Say a parade, watched the Fred Martin car guys hour block extravaganza, and ate a lot of broccoli.

My reflection focuses on my thoughts about St. Patrick. Saint Patrick was a missionary to Ireland around 400-500 C.E. He is credited to bring Christianity to the Emerald Island and bring the death of pagan religion out there. One legend tells how he used the shamrock as an illustration about the Trinity. Because of his contributions, that's why Ireland has a huge Catholic faith.

My frustration comes from how the day people celebrate St. Patrick is an excuse to get drunk, fornicate, and to be a bunch of wild heathens. First, the bars open at 8:00 in the morning. Sweet i can get drunk all day and probably get a DUI and maybe run over a kid. Second, at the parade, there were so many drunk people there that a group of girls were holding on to each other while walking because they couldn't walk a straight. Also, a man came out from the crowd and attacked a firefighter who was marching in the parade, good thing the cops threw him to the ground and arrested him. Third, Walking back from the parade, there were 2 guys dressed in green pimp outfits and one of the ladies who was walking in front of me made a comment about how she loved to suck on his balls. Man, i bet when Saint Patrick was Alive, he wore a pimp suit too while being a missionary. Those pagan women probably wanted to suck on his balls too. Lastly, As Laura, her dad, and I were driving home we had a green light and there were kids walking across the street and almost got hit. Breaking the law on St. Patrick's Day, Sweet, I guess i can go and kill people or pee on a cops leg.

My main beef with this is what was the church doing to help prevent the lewd traditions of Saint Patty's Day? At Mass, the bishop talked about Saint Patrick's life but never challenged the church or said anything profound or life changing. What have the protestants done to address this issue, Have church parties and pot luck dinners probably.

To think that Patrick went to rid paganism out of Ireland and to be an example of spreading Christianity to the ends of the earth. Now it look like pagan influence has had the upper hand on Patrick.

Happy (Satirical) St. Patrick's Day...

Ah yes, basically the greatest day of the year, March 17. It's freaking St. Patrick's Day baby and this year it falls on a Saturday and let me tell you, St. Patrick's Day on a weekend is much greater than St. Patrick's Day on a weekday. If you have to ask why then you are clearly not my kind of person, but if you must know let me just say that work and hangovers do not go well together. This year there are no worries though. Just go to the bar and drink! It will be amazing and this is the only day of the year that green beer is readily available and that is simply an offer that no one should passs up. Green beer! I know it's been around for a while now, but I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that such a technology exists. I know you can probably get some green beer the day after for cheaper, but no one wants to do that. Then it just seems like you're drinking algae or something and there is nothing fun about drinking algae.

I know I'm not really Irish, but I don't think it matters. I have a U2 cd somewhere, but since they don't sing about screwing or drinking, I can't really respect them too much. That's not the point though, that makes me an honorary Irishman. I also saw a Colin Farrell movie or two so that counts towards my Irishnicity too.

I also love it when I see some oblivious idiot who isn't in the spirit of the day and isn't wearing any green. They don't know what they are getting themselves into. A lot of people say that pinching people on St. Patrick's Day for a lack of green is childish and immature except for with your best friend or with a lover and then it's sweet, but that is crap! They know very well the consequences of their choices; it's that simple. If you don't wear green on March 17, you are getting pinched. Call me immature, I call you stupid.

Someone asked me the other day if I even knew who Saint Patrick was. I thought he meant the starfish from Spongebob, apparently he didn't. Why does it even matter? All that matters now is that I get to drink excessively and not have to come up with an excuse for it. Priests can whine all they want about the secularisation of it, but I don't care. This is what ol' Patty would've wanted.

Anyways, I'm gonna go out to the bar for now and who knows, maybe I'll get lucky if you know what I mean. Oh boy, I just crack myself up.
